About this space
Disagree with care.
Good disagreement belongs here. The aim is to make room for thoughtful contributions without turning every article into an unmoderated comment wall.
Before publication
All reader submissions and comments are reviewed. New comments and comment edits may take time to appear. The editor may approve, request changes to a piece, reject, or hide material, and may close a discussion or suspend an account.
Criticize ideas and evidence. Don’t threaten, harass, impersonate, expose private information, or flood a discussion with repetitive promotion. The editor may reject material that is off-topic, unsupported, abusive, or unsuitable for the publication.
Follow the changes
Reader responses have their own bylines. Editorial rebuttals, additions, and corrections are labeled and dated. When a comment edit awaits review, the previous approved version stays visible. You can withdraw your own comment from your account.
Use Report beside a comment or at the bottom of an article to send a private concern. Reports do not automatically remove content. To ask about a moderation decision, contact the editor with the title and relevant context.
Evidence first. No party gets a pass.
Start with current events, follow the records and include the facts that complicate an argument. We examine power and incentives without assuming coordination, forcing equal blame or telling readers what to think.
Plain language, open corrections, practical options and their tradeoffs. Read the full editorial standards.
