About this space
Evidence first. No party gets a pass.
Oddpinions starts with a current story and asks what the headline leaves out. We examine privacy, technology, concentrated power, the justice system and how government works. We follow records and test explanations, including our own.
What readers can expect
Facts, allegations, analysis and opinion are different things. We identify which is which, link the sources and date developing stories. A company policy tells us what a company promises. A complaint tells us what someone alleges. Neither is automatic proof of what happened.
We look for missing context, conflicts of interest, shared incentives and contradictions between public assurances and documented practice. We do not assume an omission was intentional without evidence of intent.
The same questions for everyone
Republicans, Democrats, officials, businesses and influential people face the same evidence standard here. Balance does not mean inventing equal blame. Shared interests, a vote or a donation may be relevant evidence, but do not by themselves establish secret coordination or control.
We examine proposed changes alongside their costs, practical limits and strongest objections. Where the evidence supports common ground, we explain it. Where it does not settle a question, we say so. Readers decide what they think.
Plain writing, open correction
Use direct language and ordinary punctuation. No outrage bait, invented anecdotes, emotional pressure or certainty the records cannot support. Headlines should identify the question, not promise a revelation the article cannot deliver.
Disagreement is welcome. Bring sources and a clear argument. Significant corrections and additions are labeled and dated; reader responses retain their own bylines. Support payments never buy favorable coverage or publication.
